Mr. John Marshall Carter, Sr., age 90, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Monday, May 13, 2019 in his home, surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral Services will be conducted 1:00PM Friday, May 17, 2019 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Brother Scott Carter and Brother Bryan Oakes will officiate.
John was born March 18, 1929 to the late Charlie & Lillie Carter in Huntingdon, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his son, Marshall Carter; daughter, Sheila Carter; four brothers, Howard Carter, Gerald Carter, Clarence Carter, & Harold Carter; and two sisters, Clara Foster & Edith Mason.
Mr. Carter married the love of his life, Carline, on May 19, 1951. He was a rural mail carrier for the United States Post Office for many years, as well as a Carroll County bus driver. He served in the Army during the Korean War. John was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Huntingdon, Tennessee. He was also a member of the American Legion, Ruritan, & Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Carline Carter; son, Chris (Vernadeen) Carter of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter, Alacia (James) Mitchell of Huntingdon, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Brenda Carter; brother, Giles Carter of Huntingdon, Tennessee; sister, Betty Meggs of Huntingdon, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Joshua (Kendrick) Carter & Kristin Carter; and great-grandson, Jackson Carter.
Pallbearers to serve are Johnny Hawkins, Tim Carter, Jeff Carter, Billy Mac Rich, Kenny Chandler & Pete Mason.
Honorary pallbearers Glendon Rich, Ray Woodard & Ronnie Carter.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM and Friday from 9:00AM until 12:30PM prior to the service at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home.
