Betty Jean Kelly, 87, of Huntingdon, passed away Monday, September 13, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 17, at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Burial will be at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Yuma.
Due to the county’s current Covid-19 rate and the concern for the health and well-being of others, the family requests that masks be worn and social distancing practiced.
Mrs. Kelly was born December 13, 1933, to the late Freeman and Lucille Umstead, in Yuma, Tennessee. She was a devoted and loving Christian mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Church Huntingdon where she volunteered wherever she could until her health no longer allowed her to be active. One of her great joys was cooking and baking to share with others.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Lloyd Kelly, Sr.; grandson, Thomas Kelly; sister Marie Umstead; and brothers, Wayne Umstead and George Umstead.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Kelly, of Huntingdon, her son Lloyd Kelly, Jr., of Springfield, her grandchildren Evan Kelly, Kimberly Kelly, and Emily Kelly of Springfield and her great-grandson, Ethan Kelly, of Springfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations remembering Betty be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Dr. Charles Stanley’s In Touch Ministries.
Evan Kelly, Ethan Kelly, Charles Hodges, Steve Stokes, Vince Taylor, and Tony Tucker will honor her as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Howell Todd, Dick Stokes, and Bobby Smith.
