Carolyn Garlits

Ms. Carolyn Jean Garlits, 73, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, April 20, 2026 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. Brother Scott Carter officiating.

The family will receive friends at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church Monday, April 20, 2026 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM.

Carolyn was born August 24, 1952 to the late J.W. Prater and Helen Prater. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, J.R. Garlits; one brother, David Prater and wife-in-law, Ronda Garlits.

She is survived by one daughter, Paula Garlits Byrd of Nashville, Tennessee; one sister Bonita Bonnell of Blufftown, South Carolina; former husband and friend, Jody Garlits; two nieces, Jessica Jacobson and Leslie Prater; two nephews, John Prater and Chris Bonnell; four grandchildren, Kailee Garlits, Blake Garlits, T.J. (Victoria) Byrd and  Chrystalyn (Jacob) McDaniel; three great-grandchildren, Isaiah McDaniel, Leonidas Byrd and Armoni Garlits.
