Dean Heath Obituary

Mr. Dean Heath, 77, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 17, 2019 in the Chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Carroll Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Heath was born May 8, 1942 in Whidbey Island, Washington to the late Leonard Dale Heath and Peggy Sterkel Heath. He was preceded in death by his sister Joan Miles and his son Leonard Dean Heath, Jr.

A veteran of the Vietnam era, Dean served 24 1/2 years of honorable active service.  His service time took him away from his family while on deployments around the world including Vietnam and Beirut, Lebanon, while serving on board U. S. Naval vessels like the USS Nashville, and several locations within the United States.  As a Drill Instructor from 1970-1973, he spent his time turning young men into Marines.  Dean completed his service as a SgtMaj of the brig in Camp Lejeune North Carolina.

As a volunteer fire fighter for over eight years, he selflessly served his community. During his time, he filled the treasure, secretary and vice-president positions.

As the Maintenance Director for Bethel University from December 1986 to March 2008, Dean used his Marine Corp experience to lead, train, and organize, restructuring the entire department to operate more effectively and efficiently.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jane Heath of Huntingdon, Tennessee, three daughters: Diana (Steve) Pitzen of Sun City, Arizona, Peggy (Jeff) Carter of Huntingdon, Tennessee, LeDeana (Jason) Britz of Meridian, Idaho; one son Leonard Dale (Angela) Heath of Scottsdale, Arizona; and several grandchildren: Dacoyda Heath, Dravyn Benson, Preston Carter, Kennedy Carter, Landon Carter, Jacey Britz, Jaylee Britz, Brynlee Britz, Cannon Heath, and Elah Heath.

The family will receive friends at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Monday, December 16, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 9:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM.
