After retiring from NAPA, he moved his boat repair business to McLemoresville where he worked until the end of 2014.

Ray was also known for his love of quail hunting and was famous for the quail meals he would prepare at his church. He had deep, close friendships that he continued to maintain until Alzheimer’s disease began to take its toll. He moved to an assisted living facility in Knoxville near his son, Kenny in early 2018.
