James Arthur Harris Obituary

Mr. James Arthur Harris, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2018.  He was 60 years old.  James Arthur was born on November 2, 1957 to the late James and Nancy Harris.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother and sister: Arthur Wayne Harris and Rebecca Harris.  He gave his heart to Christ at an early age.  He attended the First Baptist Church in Huntingdon, Tennessee along with his wife, Mary Frances, until her health began to fail her.  James and Mary Frances were married on November 6, 1982.  He was a devoted and loving husband to Frances for 35 years.  He was also a devoted step-dad, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, granddaddy, great-granddaddy, and friend.  He loved his aunts and uncles, but he had a special bond with his Auntie Ann.

Funeral Services will be conducted 2PM on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Vera Low Center for Student Enrichment in the Crisp Arena on the campus of Bethel University 101 Wildcat Lane, McKenzie, Tennessee. Burial to follow in the Carroll Memorial Gardens. Dr. Walter Butler will officiate.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Vera Low Center for Student Enrichment in the Crisp Arena on the campus of Bethel University in McKenzie from 11AM until time of services at 2PM.

James Arthur attended and graduated with the class of ’76 from the Huntingdon High School.  He had a love for sports and he was a great football player.  After high school, on February 7, 1981 to April 28, 2005, he was a National Guardsman.  In February of 1984, he was sworn in by the Town of Huntingdon City Hall, as a police officer until August of 1996.  During that time, he was a DARE officer.  He was also an employee of Norandal, now known as Granges.  From there he became Chief of Security for Bethel University(2005-2018) until his death.  He enjoyed life and he loved having fun.  He always had a smile on his face.  He was your friend for life.

 

Those left to cherish his memories: his wife, Mary Frances Barnhill Harris; 2 step-sons, Stephen Barnhill of Paris, TN and Michael Barnhill of Huntingdon, TN; 3 sisters, Yvonne Harris of Bay City, MI, Mona Harris and Stephanie Harris of Huntingdon, TN; 2 brothers, Alfonso (Susan) Harris of Bay City, MI and Perry Harris of Huntingdon, TN; 5 aunts, Ruth Mitchell, Ann Holder, Carolyn (Gregory) Cozart, Marcella Harris all of Huntingdon, TN and Louise Holder of Chicago, IL; 2 uncles, Leon (Ann) Holder of Lexington, TN and George (Mildred) Holder of Huntingdon, TN; 5 grandchildren, Whitney Barnhill of Huntingdon, TN, Jasmine Williams of Memphis, TN, Michaela Barnhill, Trevor (Brittany) Damesworth, and Jarvis Barnhill all of Huntingdon, TN; 3 great-grandchildren, Kylie Barnhill, Amelia Joe Damesworth, Jesslyn Burns; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, Princetine Barnhill and a very special close friend and daughter-in-law, Lisa Barnhill.

James Arthur will truly be missed.
