Leon Oakes Obituary

Mr. Leon Leroy Oakes, age 81, of Huntingdon, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00PM Saturday, July 6, 2019 in the Chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Brother Lynn Stapleton and Brother Bryan Oakes will officiate.

Leon was born October 26, 1937 to the late Burt & Zoe Ida Oakes in Fremont, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Norma Jean Oakes; brothers, Edward Oakes, Darrel Oakes, Melvin Oakes, Carl Oakes, Willard Oakes, & David Oakes; and sisters, Dorthy Claypool & Shirley Nienhuis.

Mr. Oakes proudly served in the Air Force.  Also, he was the president of Woodmen Life, president of AARP, commander of the rescue squad, a member of Ruritan, & a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet (Tony) Baker of Huntingdon, Tennessee; son, Bryan (Mary) Oakes of Huntingdon, Tennessee; sister, Jessie Keck of Twins Oak, Michigan; four grandchildren, Burt (Shelly) Baker, Blake (Melissa) Baker, Steven (Chelsea) Oakes, & Justin (Dawn) Oakes; and eight great-grandchildren, Chesney Baker, Bennett Baker, Beau Baker, Reid Baker, Olivia Oakes, Gunner Oakes, Conner Oakes, & Scarlett Oakes.

The family will receive friends at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Friday, July 5, 2019 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM and Saturday from 10:00AM until the time of service at 1:00PM.

Pallbearers include: Burt Baker, Blake Baker, Steven Oakes, Justin Oakes, Joe Rich, & Craig Orr.  Honorary Pallbearers include: Glendon Rich, Terry Rich, Walden Foster, Tommy Foster, Steve Foster, & David Rhodes.
