Oneita’s childhood was ingrained in the values of faith and family. From a young age, she became a devoted member of the Beasley Street Church of Christ, a place that served as a cornerstone of her life and a source of strength throughout her years. On March 1, 1946, Oneita joined her life with Sylvester Thomas, Sr. Together, they welcomed ten beloved children into the world, three of whom—infant Thomas, Jerry Thomas, and Imogene Thomas Ivory—preceded her in death. Each child was a testament to her boundless love, and her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she cherished. Oneita’s incredible work ethic shone brightly throughout her life. She took on various jobs in Carroll County, always driven by the desire to provide for her family. Her thirty-five-year career at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant was a source of stability. She also cherished the memories with her friends she traveled with from work. Mrs. Oneita Staten Thomas leaves behind a legacy of love that transcends generations. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we celebrate her life, let us remember her kindness and the enduring mark she has left on our hearts. May her spirit continue to inspire and guide us as we navigate the world without her physical presence.
Mrs. Oneita was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Thomas, Sr.; parents, Ella Staten Williams and John Milton; three sisters, Corine Johnson, Shirley Willis and Retha King.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Sylvester Thomas, Jr., Huntingdon, TN; Carl Edward Thomas (Melissa), Huntingdon, TN; James Howard Thomas (Nellie), Gibson, TN; Bruce Thomas, Jackson, TN; Patricia Thomas, Jackson, TN; Rosie Thomas Lee, Avondale, AZ; Barry Thomas, Detroit, MI, and one sister, Laura Warren, Trezevant, TN; 14 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
