Mr. Robert D. Vickers, Sr, 96, of Huntingdon, TN, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023.

The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00am on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in the chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Palmer Shelter Cemetery in Huntingdon, TN. Brother Steve Callicoatt will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and on Saturday, from 9:30am until time of service.

Mr. Vickers was born April 4, 1927, to the late Bertha Forbess and Roscoe Vickers, in Huntingdon, TN. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the Pacific theater. Later, he was an electronics technician for the Federal Aviation Administration for two years in Long View, TX, and 24 years in Athens, GA, before retiring and returning home to Tennessee.

For most of the last 17 years, Mr. Vickers has worked with his nephew, James Hill (Texas), and his cousin, Robert Joe Johnson (Huntingdon), to restore an old family log house (circa 1850) on Purdy Road that dates back to Mr. Vickers’ grandparents, William Washington (Tobe) Vickers and Sarah Elizabeth Bennett.

He is survived by one son, Bob (Melissa) Vickers, Jr, of Huntingdon, TN, one stepson Brian Quigley (Bowling Green, KY), one stepdaughter, Laura (Jim) Trevor (Columbia, IL); two grandchildren, Daniel (Sunny) Vickers (Fort White, FL), and Merrilee (Alex) Graf (Loganville, GA); four step-grandchildren, Ethan Trevor, Beth Jones, Jenny (Michael) Goodpaster, and Shannon Quigley; and six great-grandchildren, Lynley Vickers, Emma Vickers, Grayson Graf, Oliver Graf, Annabelle Graf, and Jasper Graf, and three step-great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Jones, Astrid Jones, and Austin Goodpaster.

Mr. Vickers was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edna Bates Vickers; his second wife, Anne Easley Vickers; and two sisters, Ruth Vickers and Iva Vickers Hill.

Honoring Mr. Vickers as pallbearers will be Daniel Vickers, Jim Trevor, Justin Johnson, Josh Johnson, and Seth Bennett.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, heart and lung associations, local church or organizations, the library, or your favorite charity.
