Shirley Rogers Obituary

Mrs. Shirley Fayon (Harris) Rogers, 83, resident of Oakland, Tennessee and wife of Dr. Herman Arnold Rogers, departed this life Wednesday February 8,2023 at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00PM Sunday February 12, 2033 in the Chapel of Dilday-Carter Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Jones Cemetery, Parker’s Crossroads, Tennessee. Dr H. H. Strickland officiating.

Shirley was born March 7, 1939 in Tuckerman, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Joseph Cleveland Harris and Nellie Gertrude McTigue French Harris of Tuckerman, Arkansas. She graduated from Tuckerman High School in Tuckerman, Arkansas in 1958. She played 4 years on the girl’s varsity basketball team at Tuckerman High School. After graduation she was employed by Sears in Memphis, Tennessee. Mangel’s Department Store in Jacksonville, Florida and CVS Drugstore in Panama City Beach, Florida. Shirley’s hobbies were sewing, cooking, gardening and singing. She was a Navy wife for 22 years. She was a faithful member and wife of the pastor of Landmark Baptist Church in Somerville, Tennessee.

Shirley was married to Dr. Herman Arnold Rogers, son of William Henry Farrell Rogers and Ruth Estelle (Clark) Rogers, on December 16, 1960 in Grey Road Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Susan Gayle Rogers who passed away May 10, 2009.

She is survived by her husband Dr. Herman Arnold Rogers; four daughters Anita Fayon Rorie of Somerville, Tennessee, Brenda Jeanette Rogers of Pensacola, Florida, Linda Annette King of Madison, Mississippi and Elizabeth Ann Darnell of Edgewater, Florida; one granddaughter Katie King; four grandsons Christopher Andrew Scott Taylor, William Edward Taylor, Weston Nathaniel King and Brady Garrett McLean.

The family will received friends at Dilday-Carter Funeral Home on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until time of services at 2:00PM.
