Mr. Wallace Ray Merrick, 83, of Huntingdon passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020. Chances are, if you lived in Huntingdon, you or someone in your family knew Mr. Merrick. His charismatic conversations and entertaining tales will be missed from the cotton gin at McLemoresville to Buchanan Boat Dock where his family remembers him captaining anything with a motor.
A private family memorial service will be held for the man that all remember as one to have “never met a stranger.”
Mr. Merrick was born on April 6, 1936 in Yuma, Tennessee to the late Malcolm Merrick and Ethel Enochs Merrick. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a retired truck driver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Randy Merrick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret Merrick of Huntingdon, Tennessee; one daughter, Mitzi (Brian) Knott of Wetumpka, Alabama; one son, Brett (Julie) Merrick of Cookville, Tennessee; one daughter-in-law, Beth Merrick of Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Wallace was “Pop” to his six grandchildren: Bryan (Ashley) Merrick, Adam Merrick, Anna Merrick, Cole (Magyn) Merrick, Zach (Krista) Knott, Jake (Whitney) Knott ; and four great-grandchildren: Jaxon Merrick, Logan Merrick, Merrick Knott, and Beasley Knott, who will never forget denture tricks, cold beanie weenies on the houseboat, and his fierce protection of the lone granddaughter from her older cousins.
