Wilma Crider Smith of Huntingdon, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the age of 98. 

 The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00AM Friday, December 8, 2023, at Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Carroll Memorial Gardens. Brother Kenneth Massey and Brother Lynn Stapleton officiating.

The family will receive friends at Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church 11110 Lexington Street Huntingdon, Tennessee on Thursday from 4:00PM until 7:00PM and on Friday from 9:00AM until the time of service.

She was born April 27, 1925, to Howard and Erin Scott Crider in Carroll County.  Wilma was a graduate of Clarksburg High School and Draughon’s Business College.  On March 23, 1946, she married Ray Smith.  She worked for South Central Bell before starting her own business, The Hen House, a ladies apparel shop.  She loved flowers and especially enjoyed growing her own roses.  She actively participated in the Huntingdon Garden Club, Helping Hands, and all events involving Huntingdon Missionary Baptist Church.  Wilma and Ray were instrumental in the planning, construction, and operation of the Second Harvest Food Bank as well as the livestock sale facility located on the Ag Campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin.  Wilma truly had a servant heart.

Wilma is survived by her devoted husband of 77 years, Ray, and their children Jan Smith Kizer (Jim) and Brent Smith (Wanda). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Amy Harris, Jody Kizer (Tracey), Jason Kizer (Kelly), Tim Smith (Melissa), Ginger Welp (Brian) and Christy Smith (granddaughter-in-law).  Great grandchildren include Kizer Harris, Wilson Harris, Emily Kizer, Pierce Kizer, Grant Kizer, Meg Kizer, Molly Kizer, Zach Smith, Beau Smith, Maggie Ray Smith, Allie Welp, and Ansley Welp.  Wilma is also survived by her siblings, Randy Crider, Faye Stockdale, and Kaye Pace. 

She was preceded in death by grandson, Jeff Smith, and grandson-in-law, James Harris, as well as her sisters, Nell Cary, Dorothy Green, Jane Kehring, and brothers, Justin Crider and Milton Crider.
